Analisa and Adam - Dec. 24, 2002

Analisa is in our thoughts and prayers.
Don and Patty Jennings
Know that Analisa and the rest of you all will be in our prayers each day. May the insanity of fighting not come to fruition, and may all those young men and women leaving family and loved ones return safely. We love you all... It's times like this that family is so important. She's a great young lady.  Love you all

No more slam those much abused doors,
Nor the Hi-Fi emits its usual array of noise.
Seldom does a busy signal greet phone callers these days,
And gone are those kitchen table notes.
Nowhere is that constant din of chatter
As two rooms stand waiting for their masters.
Alone together again after countless years,
A mother and a father endure the pain
Of giving their only boys to the Uniform.

Sally, we will pray for her safe return to you, Jim and the family.

Charlotte and Kenton have temporarily adopted Analisa's Christmas present - meet Cujo!

This 1 year old 180+ lb Saint Bernard puppy has been quite an addition to the Blackwood family.  So far, he's thoroughly enjoyed his stay and even has visited our mountain house.

When Kenton and Charlotte were at the mountain with him in 4 feet of snow, he just loved it.  He would run around the house and play and when Charlotte laid down in the snow at one point, he came over and laid down beside her and put his leg across her chest and then leaned up on her and put another leg above her head.  I guess that St. Bernard instinct works pretty well!  He and Kenton's other dog Mojo are now frolicking together and happy to have company!

This Christmas was a beautiful one of course, if not a little sad anticipating her departure.  The grandkids all went nuts opening presents.  We know they will miss their Aunt 'isa!

Tyler received a beautiful Fender guitar from his Pa Kenton.  He's busy here putting together his guitar stand.  It was much more difficult, however, getting the other kids to smile for the camera.

On the first evening that Tyler met Cujo, he came bounding up the stairs as Cujo and Kenton arrived at the top.  Tyler looked up with wide eyes and booked it back down the stairs to the living room.  Kenton found him on the top of the back of the couch and he asked, "Tyler are you scared of him?"  Tyler responds, "No, I'm just cold and its warmer up here."

We are all very blessed to have such a wonderful family.  Here, Analisa poses with her brother Charles and sisters Anita and Alana after the Christmas festivities.  When we had our final dinner with her in Fairmont, she hugged her grandpa Jim goodbye and slipped her dog tags into his pocket.  We were all upset and crying in the car once we realized what she did.  It was Jim's idea to wave goodbye to her with the American flag as she left town.  Although we weren't sure if she had seen us, hearing from her, she told her mom to tell grandpa it meant so much to her.  She's the first person in our family to go to war since Poppy, three generations ago.  (But we don't forget Uncle Bob in Korea.)
