Tomahawk Elementary School was the major project in a $10,960,000.00 Bond Issue completed by Blackwood Associates, Inc. for Berkeley County in 1991. The Bond Issue budgeted $3,710,000.00 for a new school to relieve overcrowded conditions at four existing Elementary School buildings.
Site selection was made after Bond passage and BAI evaluation of properties throughout the northern part of the County. Bids on the new school were opened in June 1989 and the building was occupied at the start of the 1990/91 school year.
Berkeley County Schools provided extensive committee input into the design of this new facility. Many innovative features were included to allow future flexibility in use of interior spaces.
